Career summary

I am an epidemiologist and nutrition scientist investigating how dietary sweeteners—from sugar-containing foods to low-calorie sweeteners and natural sweeteners like honey—shape the risk of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. My work synthesizes evidence from published nutrition studies through systematic reviews and meta-analyses using both established and innovative methods, including GRADE assessments, substitution/change analyses, pattern-mixture models, network meta-analysis, and non-linear dose–response modelling. As the methodological lead in our laboratory, I design statistical frameworks for clinical trials and train graduate students to produce high-impact publications. My research has directly informed the dietary guidelines of Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).
